Blue Martini--The place for locals on Wednesday nights I recently had the opportunity to check out the new Las Vegas version of the popular Blue Martini Lounge that originated in Florida. I'll have to admit, I really was skeptical that this new place would be any different than many of the other newer spots in town. Las Vegas is different than other cities in that a club or lounge almost needs to be located within a casino in order to be successful. Well, I was surprised before I even got into the lounge. I arrived late at around 1:30am and was surprised to see a line of people out front, still waiting to get in. Once inside, I was immediately pleasantly surprised to see attractive people EVERYWHERE. Not only were the familiar faces of the Las Vegas industry there, but also young, attractive professionals. The vibe was excellent as was the music. Blue Martini was packed at 2am on a Wednesday night, which is something that even lounges in popular Las Vegas casinos have a challenge maintaining. From what I had heard, it was even busier earlier that night. Well, needless to say, I was impressed from the minute I arrived to the time I left. I will visit Blue Martini Lounge again to see if this is typical for myself. If it is, it will become part of my weekly routine. For now, I feel confident in saying that Blue Martini Lounge is THE place to be on Wednesday nights.

In order to validate Blue Martini as THE spot to be on Wednesday night, I decided to go the very next Wednesday night. Unfortunately, I saw the very reason why most nightclubs are selective at the door. It seems that all the guys that were there last week returned to this "hot spot". Problem is, they also brought many of there male buddies along. The result?...a guy girl ratio of about 80/20. While the club was still jam-packed with people and making money, this ratio is really bad for a number of reasons. Nothing is worse for an attractive female than a bunch of sweaty, drunk guys all grabbing on her and trying to get her attention. I saw many girls annoyed by the "testicle festival" and they left early...making the ratio worse. Worse yet, these females may not return next Wednesday. If this situation continues, I foresee the ratio situation getting even worse. If this happens, the guys will no longer go either as they go where the attractive women are. You see, the very thing that guys gripe about (difficulty getting into clubs and paying) is what protects the club environment. Nothing will kill a club faster than a "cock fight" and the only way to prevent that is to keep the ratio at least 50/50, if not more in favor of females. The way to do that is to charge a high entry fee for guys, hold many of them outside for extended periods of time to keep the correct ratio, and offer all the incentives to the women. Find what women want, deliver it and do what it takes to keep them coming back...this is the only way for a club to be successful over a long period of time. EVERYTHING else will just fall into place if this is maintained. So, for now, I have to say that Blue Martini has some "fixing" to do. I'm not the only one that experienced last Wednesday and I'm sure that I'm not the only one that knows what needs to be done. I hope that it is fixed quickly as there is just too much competition in this city to survive an extended mess up of a good thing.
